Overall, Kagetsu's colossal starting stats, fantastic growth rates across the board and weaknesses that can be easily patched make him one of the game's most powerful units on a consistent basis. Should your Emblem Rings be invested elsewhere, however, then another option exists: Navarre's Bond Ring, which provides the Deadly Blade skill, which provides an extra 10 to critical chance when attacking with a sword. Finally Ring of the Hero-King can turn him into a fearsome duelist and boss killer with its litany of avoid bonuses and Lodestar Rush. Ring of the Radiant Hero can transform him into a solid mixed tank unit thanks to Resolve, and he appreciate the high might Engage weapons as well. ![]() Ring of the Azure Twins gives him extra flat damage on every attack due to Bravery and Lunar Brace, and the potential to self heal with Solar Brace also synergises with his dodge rate. If his speed is already satisfactory, he generally prefers rings that improve his strength - Ring of the Young Lion is a strong ring that boosts his already huge stats, and his high avoid comboes well with Hold Out to form a potent dodge tank. Ring of the Lady of the Plains is a powerful force multiplier on Kagetsu thanks to his already high speed allowing him to easily proc Alacrity and demolish opponents without fear of counterattack, and augmenting that speed further helps to improve his high dodge chance. Kagetsu almost always prefers offensive Emblem Rings. From there, he can then be reclassed to a Wyvern Knight, Warrior, Halberdier, Hero or almost any other physical role the player requires, and he will be one of the best possible units in all of them. Once the player obtains Ike's and then Eirika's Emblem Rings (or immediately if using DLC), Kagetsu can obtain the proficiencies for axes and lances, both of which he is adept at wielding thanks to his high dexterity and personal skill Blinding Flash. He can wield a Killing Edge and attempt to use critical hits to compensate, but it is generally better to change Kagetsu to a more potent offensive class instead. Despite being a prepromote, he is not actually well-suited for the class long-term - its low strength base and growth coupled with the low might of swords can all combine to exacerbate Kagetsu's biggest flaw of low strength, and he can wind up struggling to deal damage later on despite his high speed. While the former can become one of his few weaknesses if he does not gain strength via other means, his bases are so high that it is likely Kagetsu will be the player's strongest fighter when he joins and will remain so for the rest of the game. While his incredible bases may suggest some kind of weakness in his growths, this is not the case - Kagetsu also has some of the highest growth rates in the game, being 3rd overall, with most stats ranging from good to great and only his strength and resistance growth being somewhat low. He even handily outstats units that join several chapters after him, sometimes dramatically so. Much of this is due to his absurd base stats, with fantastic strength, dexterity, speed and luck and at worst average numbers for everything else except for magic, which he does not use. Kagetsu joins in Chapter 11 as the first pre-promoted unit the player recruits (excluding Vander), and is easily the best physical unit in the game, if not in contention for the best unit outright.
